Overview

The Commission serves an important role in the Community and within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as they are the Administrator of the State's Wetlands Protection Act, M.G.L. Chapter 131, Section 40 (the Act), the Stormwater Regulations and Standards and the local Wetlands Protection By-Law in the Town of Rockland (Chapter 407 - the Bylaw). Under these laws, the Commission processes many permit applications each year to work in or near: 

  • Floodplains
  • Riverfront Areas
  • Rivers
  • Streams and Wildlife Habitat
  • Vegetated Wetlands

They are charged with the responsibility to protect the eight interests wetland resource areas provide the residents and businesses of the Town of Rockland including: 

  • Flood Control
  • Groundwater Supply
  • Prevention of Pollution
  • Protection of Fisheries and Wildlife Habitat
  • Protection of Public and Private Water Supplies
  • Storm Damage Prevention
